Suseemaramaya

Shrine Room

Rilawala is a beautiful village situated between Homagama and Kesbewa in the Colombo District which is 25 km from the main commercial city Colombo(former capital of Ceylon) and the present capital Sri Jayawardenapura. The proposed Colombo –Matara Highway runs across this village.

Though there are no physical resources, nature has gifted a environmental wealth. At present there are three hundred families in the village with a population of 3000.They are hardworking people and live on their day to day earnings, although they belong to low income group.

The religious service centre of the village is Sri Suseemaramaya the Buddhist temple, which has a history of two hundred years. This temple has an ancient (Dagoba) Stupa, Scared Bo-Tree, a beautiful Shrine Room, Sermon Hall and Monastery for the (Bikkus)
monks.

The various common activities of the village are carried out in the temple. The social welfare activities such as Sunday School, Rural Development Society, Death Donation and Welfare Society, Buddhist Society are operated from the temple premises. The economical development of the villagers is at a low level. It is necessary to have the physical development in par with spiritual development.
